Dubai Archilace
The Dubai Archilace project builds on the highly involved structural modelling and analysis techniques first established in our earlier Letchworth and Amsterdam Archilace projects with Loop.pH. Modelling the thousands of interwoven elements in the structure pushed the capabilities of the Rhino/Grasshopper/Karamba environment to the limit.
Archilace is a technique pioneered by the artists. Very thin glass fibre rods are weaved together in a pattern derived from a mesh generated from a three dimensional surface and then reinforced with carbon fibre elements. Our analysis included the simulation of the pre-stress induced by curving the carbon fibre rods on the glass fibre mesh.
Our Structural Analysis role also included a full assessment of the site wind conditions, the buildability and the foundations of the structure.
