Boulevard Theatre Feature Stair

Format Engineers worked on the technical design of this highly-minimal steel staircase on behalf of architectural metalwork fabricator Littlehampton Welding. The stair sits within the new Boulevard Theatre by SODA Studio for client Soho Estates.

Format worked closely with Littlehampton Welding, SODA and project engineer Tier Consult to align the design, technical and fabrication requirements into one final staircase design for approval.

The stair was found to be more dynamic than typical guidance limits but Format’s analysis and reporting assisted in the client’s understanding of how this might feel and enabled the go-ahead for an initial flight to be fabricated in LHW’s workshop for testing and approval. Dynmic testing of these stairs showed they performed as per the structural model, giving the client confidence in approving the rest of the stair for fabrication.
