Between Worlds
Format Engineers were responsible for the Detailed and Fabrication design of a series of immense Cor-Ten steel sculptures in the grounds of Glyndebourne Opera House.
The works were designed by the architect turned artist Nicholas Hare and are part of a site-wide exhibition with the theme of ‘Between Worlds’. Each metal sculpture explores the spacial geometry of triangles in a slightly different way.
The scale of the works, the largest being 12m in height and weighing 26 tonnes required substantial Engineering analysis and investigation of the global stability and of the micro level stress analysis at the few and extremely filigree connections between huge sheets of 60mm thick steel.
