RCOG

The Bennetts Associates scheme aims to unify two separate buildings, a historic 19th century masonry building and a newer 20th century building into a single flexible space for the Royal College of Gynaecologists (RCOG). This was achieved by a new structural steel and glass roof and facade over the space between them, thus creating a usable, conditioned space below. The two old structures are linked with a dramatic spiralling steel staircase. Format Engineers were responsible for the RIBA Stage 4 technical design of the glazed roof, the facade structure and the huge spiral staircase.
