Little Coombe
Little Coombe is the latest in a line of structural plywood projects with Architects Studios Ben Allen which aims to explore how simple and cost effective sheet material can be used as an alternative for high carbon fabricated steel or glulam timber. The project entailed a number of extensions and alterations to a residential building in Kent together with the construction of a new scupltural glazed conservatory extension to the main house. Our work included the full design of the structural elements. Most notably this included a detailed consideration of how the plywood member connections in the conservatory should be staggered and lapped in order to be simple to procure and to build. The end result is a striking and beautiful addition to the existing house.
