International Rugby Experience Sculpture

Designed and created by Millimetre in conjunction with Niall McLaughlin Architects, this light sculpture hangs in the foyer of the new International Rugby Experience building in Limerick, Ireland.

The data-driven sculpture represents the result of combining global rugby teams’s influence, performance and ranking via machined brass nodes which visually portray this information using their scale and subsequent light output.

Format were responsible for the engineering design of the sculpture and its support system. The arrangement of slim brass rods was carefully developed alongside the Millimetre team to maintain the lightweight aesthetic of the sculpture while preventing buckling.
