Moon Bloom
Moon Bloom is a striking participatory installation for the Moon Festival in Sutton, London. It highlights the moon’s physical and symbolic qualities through a spiral moongate that collects rainwater and nurtures nocturnal plantings. The work is enriched by layered diaspora voices, including the newly-arrived Hong Kong community. Through clever structural innovation—balancing strength, precision, and elegance — Moon Bloom achieves its poetic form and functional resilience. The result is not just a sculpture, but a finely tuned engineering marvel that feels as light as a petal yet stands firm through the elements. The delicate filigree but twisting nature of the structure required a high degree of optimisation through computational modelling.
