El Lissitzky’s Horizontal Skyscraper WB2

Counterfactual Modelling in Historical Reconstruction: El Lissitzky’s Horizontal Skyscraper WB2 - published in Technology|Architecture + Design, Volume 6, Issue 1 (2022), Print ISSN: 2475-1448 Online ISSN: 2475-143X is a collaboration between Samuel Johnson of Syracuse University, Mitesh Dixit and Lawry Boyer of Domain and Stephen Melville of Format Engineers which takes three incomplete 1926 drawings for a horizontal skyscraper by Russian suprematist El Lizzitzky and reconstructs them into a fleshed out three dimensional building. This speculative arrangement was arrived at with reference to El Lizzitzky’s other works and with collaborative design between Architect and Engineer as per modern ‘real’ projects. Thanks to a counterfactual model, this ideal object can be examined in relation to historical design methodologies The paper can be found here: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/24751448.2022.2040303
